Mr. Mackenzie was educated at Downside School, Oxford University, and the Harvard Business School. He was project manager, production director, and managing director of various businesses within the United Biscuits/Keebler group of food companies from 1966 through 1986. He joined the Food and Drink Federation (FDF), London, at its inception in 1986 and developed it into the principal lobbying organization for the U.K.'s largest manufacturing industry-food and drink.
During the past 14 years, the FDF has dealt with a succession of crises hitting the industry: additives, irradiation, Salmonella in eggs, Listeria, BSE, genetically modified ingredients, organics, and pesticide residues to name a few.
