John McManus is associate publisher of American Demographics magazine, the voice of the consumer marketplace. Since March 1998, he has led American Demographics' design and content reformulation to meet readers' knowledge needs as the magazine starts into a third decade as a must-read for consumer goods and services marketers.
He is formerly editorial director of Brandweek, responsible for creating the story coverage strategy for the newsweekly magazine of marketing from 1992 to 1997. Mr. McManus first worked at Adweek as a reporter covering advertising agencies, clients, and media in 1988 and 1989. After a stint as a media reporter in the New York bureau of Advertising Age, he rejoined Adweek Magazines in 1990, as news editor for the start-up of Mediaweek. In late 1991, he became executive editor of Mediaweek, until moving over to recast Brandweek.
Previously, Mr. McManus worked for two years on the start-up of Times Mirror Magazines' Sports Inc., the sports business weekly, followed by a brief period as a New York correspondent for The Sporting News. In the early 1980s, he was a general assignment news reporter for a community newspaper in the New York area. Mr. McManus is a graduate of the State University of New York's College at Purchase.
