Dr. Miranowski is professor and former chair of the Department of Economics at Iowa State University. Previously he was director of the Food and Consumer Economics Division (1994-95) and director of the Resources and Technology Division (1984-94), Economic Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), in Washington, D.C. He also served as a special assistant and executive coordinator of the Secretary's Policy Coordination Council in the Office of the Secretary of Agriculture (1990-91). Before joining the USDA, Dr. Miranowski was an associate professor of economics at Iowa State University in Ames. He has specialized in natural resource and environmental quality policy.

He grew up on a farm in southwestern Minnesota, received his BS degree in agricultural business from Iowa State University, and in 1969 and 1975 received the AM and PhD degrees in economics at Harvard University.
