GianCarlo Moschini joined the Center for Agricultural and Rural Development in 2000 as the Pioneer Hi-Bred International Chair in Science and Technology Policy. A native of Italy, he studied agricultural sciences at the Catholic University of Piacenza (Italy) and agricultural economics at the University of Guelph (Canada). He has been at Iowa State University since 1987, achieving the rank of professor of economics in 1995. Dr. Moschini's current research interests focus on the economics of scientific R&D activities and the impact of new technologies, including the economic assessment of biotechnology in agriculture, consumer acceptance of genetically modified organisms and regulation issues, the analysis of intellectual property rights, and the role of public policy and market institutions in fostering innovation and economic growth.
