Stanley R. Johnson became vice provost for University Extension
at Iowa State University in 1996. In this capacity, he is responsible
for nearly a $60 million budget and a full- and part-time faculty
and staff of more than 1,250. He was appointed as the vice provost
to undertake a major restructuring of Extension at ISU.
Prior to this appointment, Dr. Johnson was the director of the Center
for Agricultural and Rural Development. He is a Charles F. Curtiss
Distinguished Professor of Agriculture; a Fellow of the American
Agricultural Economics Association; Member of the Former Soviet
Union Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Russian Academy of Agricultural
Science, and the Ukraine Agricultural Academy of Science; Honorary
Professor of the Center for Rural Development Research, Chinese
Academy of Sciences; Foreign Member of the Hungarian Academy of
Sciences; and Honorary Professor of the Ukrainian State Agricultural
University. Other honors include the Wilton Park International Service
Award, and the International Honor Award, Office of International
Cooperation and Development, U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Dr. Johnson received a B.A. degree from Western Illinois University,
an M.S. degree from Texas Technological College in Lubbock, and
a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University.
