John Miranowski is professor and former chair of the Department
of Economics at Iowa State University. Previously he was director
of the Food and Consumer Economics Division (1994-95) and director
of the Resources and Technology Division (1984-94) of the Economics
Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture. He also served
as special assistant and executive coordinator of the Secretary's
Policy Coordination Council in the Office of the Secretary of Agriculture
(1990-91).
Before joining the USDA, Dr. Miranowski was an associate professor
of economics at Iowa State University. His research and teaching
interests are in the areas of natural resources and the environment,
health and risk assessment, and productivity analysis.
Dr. Miranowski grew up on a farm in southwestern Minnesota. He received
his B.S. degree in agricultural business from Iowa State University
and in 1969 and 1975 received the A.M. and Ph.D. degrees in economics
from Harvard University.
